LI FAMILY PHOTOS AT JEFFREY TRAIL

Joyful Chinese grandparents embrace during a family photoshoot at Jeffrey Open Space Trail in Irvine, California.

Jeffrey Trail gives you the best of Irvine in one stretch — quiet paths, golden eucalyptus groves, and plenty of room for kids to run around. The Li family recently moved to Irvine from China, and we had one goal: capture three generations in a place that already felt like home. Ninety minutes later we left with hugs, dirty shoes, and a gallery packed with genuine smiles. If you’re after relaxed, outdoor family photos in Orange County, this spot is tough to beat.

Why I Keep Coming Back to This Trail

OPEN AND UNCROWDED

There’s nothing complicated about this spot — wide paths, soft backgrounds, and not a ton of foot traffic. That makes a big difference when you're working with little kids or grandparents who don’t want to be rushed. No one’s dodging joggers or waiting on benches to clear. It’s quiet, easy to move around, and lets the session stay low-key from start to finish.

AWESOME LIGHT

Late afternoon is where this trail shines. Light filters through the eucalyptus trees in a way that gives you clean, even tones without harsh shadows or blown highlights. I don’t have to fight the light here — it gives you usable frames from almost any angle, which means more real moments and less staging.

EASY TO SHOOT HERE

Some locations make you work for every shot. Not this one. Even with a big group or high-energy kids, I can move fast and still walk away with a solid gallery. It’s the kind of spot where you don’t have to over-direct — people settle in quickly, and what we get feels honest, not forced.

Session Details & Pricing

I. HOW LONG IT TOOK

We spent about 90 minutes at Jeffrey Trail — enough time to let everyone settle in without dragging it out. That’s the sweet spot for most families. Long enough to get a wide range of moments, short enough that kids (and adults) don’t burn out. Final galleries usually land between 80 and 100 edited images. Everything’s delivered in about two weeks, straight to your inbox, ready to download or share.

II. HOW BOOKING WORKS

Once you’re ready to move forward, it’s a simple process. I’ll send over a short contract and collect a 50% retainer to hold the date. After that, we’re set. You’ll get a prep guide ahead of time, and I’ll check in before the session to go over anything specific you want. No back-and-forth, no confusion — just a clear plan so you can show up and enjoy it.

III. WHAT IT COSTS

Family sessions like this start at $600. That includes the full edited gallery — high-res files, no watermarks, no image limits. You’re not picking favorites from a proof sheet or getting charged extra to download the ones you actually like. What’s strong stays in, and the gallery is yours to use how you want. If you want to see a full pricing breakdown, you can head to the investment page.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Not at all. Most people don’t. I’ll give you simple direction when it matters, but a lot of it is just walking, talking, and being together. That’s what makes the best photos anyway.

  • Absolutely. This session included three generations, and it worked great. Whether it's just your crew or the whole family, I can structure the session to get what matters without it turning into chaos.

  • Neutrals and earth tones always look good out here — nothing too loud or logo-heavy. You don’t need to match, but you should look like you belong together. Simple layers, comfortable shoes, and avoid bright white if we’re shooting in full sun.
