When you are visiting Newport Beach on vacation, the last thing you want is a stressful photoshoot. The Richard family flew in for a short trip, so we planned a relaxed Crystal Cove session that felt more like a beach day than a photo shoot. This location is perfect for travelers because it offers the quintessential California look—cliffs, tide pools, and golden light—without a long hike or complicated logistics.

Why Crystal Cove is Perfect for Vacation Photos

THE QUINTESSENTIAL CALIFORNIA LOOK

When you visit Newport Beach, you want photos that scream "West Coast." Crystal Cove delivers exactly that. With its dramatic cliffs, pristine tide pools, and rolling waves, it offers that classic California aesthetic in one compact location. It’s the perfect backdrop to document your trip without needing to drive halfway down the coast to find a scenic spot.

You’re on vacation, so the photo session shouldn’t feel like work. We kept the vibe incredibly casual—no stiff posing or complicated instructions. I let the family hang out, walk the shoreline, and enjoy the sunset. The goal was to capture them actually enjoying their trip, resulting in images that feel like genuine memories, not a chore.

A STRESS-FREE EXPERIENCE

For the Richard family, we timed the session for low tide, which is crucial at this beach. Low tide reveals the wide, sandy stretches and rocky pools that kids love to explore. It gave the boys plenty of room to run without getting soaked, keeping the session relaxed and keeping their travel clothes (mostly) dry.
