The Richard family flew in from out of state to spend the week in Newport Beach, and we timed this session just right—low tide, golden hour, and plenty of room to explore. Crystal Cove State Park gave us texture, space, and quiet moments that felt real. We kept things relaxed and simple, which is exactly how these photos feel. If you're looking for a session that’s easygoing but still intentional, here’s what to expect and what it costs.

What It’s Like to Shoot at Crystal Cove

TIDE, LIGHT, AND TIMING

This session lined up with perfect conditions—low tide gave us more room to move, and golden hour softened every shot. We started just before sunset, which let the boys explore while the light stayed even and clean. If you're planning your own session here, that timing makes all the difference.

Crystal Cove is one of those places that always delivers. It’s got sand, cliffs, trails, and wide open space, all within a short walk. The tones stay neutral, the textures are rich, and even with a little wind, it photographs beautifully. It’s a spot I come back to again and again for a reason.

WHY THIS SPOT WORKS

The Richards were in town for a short vacation, so we kept everything simple. No big poses, no rushing—just space to play, walk, and hang out together. That’s how we got moments that feel real, not staged. I give direction when it’s helpful but let families settle in on their own pace.

III. HOW TO BOOK

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Totally normal — I don’t expect perfect behavior. We keep the session easy, with plenty of space to move and no pressure to pose. Some of the best moments come when kids are just being themselves. I’ll guide gently when needed, but most of the time, I follow their lead.

  • Keep it simple and comfortable. Soft tones, neutral colors, and clothes you can move in tend to photograph best at the beach. Avoid loud logos or matching outfits — coordinated but not identical is the goal. After booking, I’ll send a prep guide with tips and examples.

  • For weekends or holidays, at least 4–6 weeks is ideal. If you're visiting from out of town like the Richard family, let me know your travel dates early so we can find the best time for light and tide. That little bit of planning makes a big difference in how the session feels.
